Burn Permit - Status

IN CASE OF EMERGENCY CALL 911.

Call before you burn!

Approved Burn Permits

If you don't see your application and/or permit you are NOT AUTHORIZED to burn, and could be subject to fines, civil action, or possible criminal action for violation of local, municipal, state and/or federal laws.

Burn Permits are generally valid only for the specific day, time, and location stated on the permit. They are not “standing” permits that last for multiple days unless explicitly issued that way by the town or forest fire warden.

Permit # Fire Warden Applicant Location Date Authorized
No approved permits at this time

A State Permit to start a fire is required for open burning. You do not need a permit for a fire pit for recreational use, as long as it is constructed or a manufactured pit or area that is 3' by 3' or less.

You cannot use that pit for burning yard or other debris without a permit. Bonfires now need a permit.

Any fire where you are burning structure debris requires an additional Air Pollution Permit plus a permit from the Town Fire Warden.

Call Fire Warden - Brenda Field at (802)889-5548 or Assistant Fire Warden - John Durkee at (802)889-3408 for burn permits (leave your name and call back number if you get voice mail).

We are allowed to give permits out over the phone by filling out our copy of the permit for you with all your information and letting you know your responsibilities.

We get an update each morning from Vermont Forest, Parks and Recreation regarding conditions in our area.
